In part 1 I took a look at MOBY DICK published by Easton Press. In this shorter and a little less detailed entry I will be looking at three volumes from their Horror Classics series. The three books I have chosen to detail here are THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA, THE STRANGE CASE OF DR. JEKYLL AND MR. HYDE, and TALES OF SOLDIERS AND CIVILIANS.
First, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.
All of Easton Press’s books have raised spines as you can see in this picture of JEKYLL AND HYDE. The collection of Easton Press books look handsome on shelves and the tactile sensation of holding a leather bound book just feels good.
Each volume in the Horror Classics series has full color frontise pieces illustrated by Patrick Jones. Now I haven’t been able to find any website for Jones. But he does some damn fine
work and I would love to see some of the specialty presses take a look at his work and get his work in their books. All the color pieces in this entry are by Jones.
The title page has a color illustration of the author and a nicely designed two color title page. As with MOBY DICK each volume is printed on heavy acid free stock with heavy endpapers, smythe sewn bindings, satin ribbon marker, and gilded edges. As
well as stamped and gilded line work on the cover and spine.
JEKYLL AND HYDE has both color and black and white illustrations throughout the book. Click here for the black and white detail.
Easton Press produced a great edition of this incredible tale.
TALES OF SOLDIERS AND CIVILIANS is a collection of short stories from Ambrose Bierce. I have never read any work by Bierce and I can’t wait to get into this collection.

The spine and front cover of TALES has great stamp press work. And it also has one of my favorite pieces by Patrick Jones.
I was only able to get three pictures of the PHANTOM OF THE OPERA before I ran out of time.

Also you can see all the Eaton Press pictures at my Flickr page as well.
